About Pawfly filter media and pads

Nine kinds of pad, floss, bag and pre-filter sponge, graded from 30 PPI foam down to a 50 micron polishing pad.

Coarse goes first in the flow, fine goes last. Put the Bio Sponge Filter Pads, cut from 6.3 by 5.5 in sheets at 30 or 40 PPI, where water enters your filter, and lay floss or the polishing pad after them to catch what the foam lets through. Floss tears to size by hand, from 7 to 17.6 oz bags, while the 8-Layer pad stacks foam, fiber and carbon in one 16 by 12 in sheet.

Loose media goes in a bag. The zippered bags have 2 mm holes for ceramic rings and carbon, and the drawstring bags close at 150 micron for fine resin or peat granules. Intake sponges slide over a filter inlet so shrimp and fry stay out. Two sets fit pond gear by part: Beckett pumps numbered 7209410 and 7137710, and the CPF-2500 pressure filter, whose set holds 2 yellow and 2 blue pads.

The 9 filter media and pads on this shelf belong to Pawfly aquarium supplies.

Also by need: pond aeration and big stones, sponge filters and their spares.

Questions about Pawfly filter media

How long will a Pawfly 8-layer filter pad last you?

Up to 200 rinses before it needs replacing. Rinse it in tank water when you see the flow slow down, then put it back. The pad comes 16 by 12 by 0.8 in, one or two to a pack, or 47 by 12 in for a long filter, and you cut it to fit.

Which micron rating of Pawfly media should you choose?

Lower numbers catch finer particles. The polishing pad comes in 50, 100 and 200 micron, and 50 traps the smallest grains, so set it last in the filter and rinse it when the flow drops. Our 150 micron drawstring bags hold fine resin and fine activated carbon without letting the grains out.

Will Pawfly intake sponges fit your aquarium filter inlet?

Measure the outside of your intake tube first. The single-hole sponges come with inner diameters of 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 in, from 2.4 to 4 in long, 6 to a pack. Push one over the inlet, and shrimp, fry and plant bits stay outside the filter.
