- Fits a 10 to 40 gallon fry or shrimp tank in size S, or up to 55 gallons in size M.
No air pump is involved here: a 3 W submersible water pump pulls 70 GPH through two foam sponges and a chamber of ceramic balls. The foam catches uneaten food and waste, and the sponge and ceramic surfaces give bacteria room to settle once the tank is cycled. Its motor runs under 30 dB, and the S size measures 6.2 by 11.2 inches.
S covers 10 to 40 gallons and M covers 15 to 55. Before the first run, take the 2 spare sponges out of the chamber and put the ceramic balls in their place. At 11.2 inches tall the S size needs enough depth to keep the sponges fully under water, and it crowds a 10 gallon tank. Rinse the sponges every 2 weeks in tank water.
