Five readings come out of one box: pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate. The Pawfly 5-in-1 Water Master Test Kit uses liquid reagents and color charts, and the description counts 265 tests in total, 100 for pH, 50 for nitrate, 45 for nitrite, 40 for phosphate and 30 for ammonia. It works in freshwater and saltwater tanks alike.
Add the reagent to a water sample, wait, then hold the tube against the chart and match the shade. Ammonia runs out first at 30 tests, so plan a refill around it if you test often while a tank cycles. The kit comes as a Blue Box, a Blue Standard Kit or a Black Box, and the description does not say how their contents differ. Hardness and CO2 are not among the five tests.
